A volunteer review: Year 10 Student, Jess Said

I was given an incredible and an important opportunity to do volunteering at the Royal Hampton, for my DofE (Duke of Edinburgh) award. I chose to do volunteering at a care home for the elderly, the Royal Hampton. My duties include serving dinners, offering teas or coffees and having a fun quiz night every Wednesday. I not only gained work experience but it also helped me build confidence in speaking with elderly people. I also realised how appreciative the residents were for the time that I spent with them.

My time at the Royal Hampton has been deeply rewarding and emotionally satisfying. I benefited a lot from the experiences, wisdom and the stories the residents shared with me. It gave me a new perspective on interacting with a different generation. The tasks apparently straightforward required patience, initiative and responsibility.

The lessons that I take away from my volunteering experience are the value and importance of family, relationship, respect, organisation, persistence, compassion and life. I would like to thank the staff at Royal Hampton for their help and patience. They were all very caring and professional”.
